I have a friend who’s Catholic. Despite me being pretty hardcore not religious, and having generally different political views, she’s one of my best friends and we have discussions about our views all the time. I’ve made a post after she and I discussed abortion before, with her saying she only believes it’s acceptable with rape or danger to the mother.
Recently at a party, she got rather drunk. I know, bad Catholic. She ended up hooking up with, but not having sex with, 2 different guys.
Today she told me she wasn’t sure if she had sex with one of them or not at first, and she wondered if she got pregnant.
And she admitted to me that if she got pregnant, she’d have an abortion, because she wasn’t in a situation where she could go through with a pregnancy.
My religious, pro life, conservative friend admitted that she now supports abortion as an option, because she was too quick to judge until she was in that situation where it might be a possibility.
Until she had the thought of what might happen if she got pregnant, she never considered abortion an option.
Until she was faced with the reality that if she got pregnant, her life would essentially be ruined because of a single mishap, she never considered abortion an option.
Because she realized that going through with a pregnancy she didn’t want in her situation wouldn’t help her, or the potential baby.
Because you never realize the necessity of a choice until you’re forced to make one.
